It’s A Great Time To Be A Foodie! (Part 2)

In our previous blog post, we talked about some food trends that are in the spotlight right now. Here are some more that we’re loving:

Activated charcoal: This food trend blew up last year, especially with newcomers like iHalo Krunch in Toronto offering charcoal ice cream cones. It continues to enter the food market, making its way into coffee beverages, and even pizza and hot dogs. Its health benefits are uncertain but it is definitely Instagram-worthy!

Sushi burger: Put down the chopsticks and pick up a sushi burger. This is exactly what it sounds like – sushi ingredients between two buns made up of rice. You can add any toppings you like in it but the most popular and traditional ones include raw fish, seaweed, ginger, wasabi and avocado. It makes for an impressive picture and is beautiful in person – but do be careful, it can get messy!

Kombucha: Although kombucha has been around for a long time, it has become more popular year and year as people become more health-conscious. This is a mixture of tea, sugar and bacteria cultures. It is not only offered at health food stores but it has even made its way into supermarkets and cafes. It is associated with many perks, such as improved digestion, less stress and more energy. It promotes a healthy gut and mental clarity.

Liquid Nitrogen: This is as trendy as it gets – many chefs use liquid nitrogen to liven up food items and cocktails. Many coffee shops now are offering nitro cold brew coffee on tap. Numerous liquid nitrogen treat shops have opened up – some popular items include ice cream and puffs. The liquid nitrogen puffs are most commonly called “Dragon’s Breath” because it gives you “dragon breathing powers” when you take a bite into it. Breathe out after chewing and you’ll see smoke come out of your nose and mouth!
